Coincidentally, my wife Teffy found this story on Instagram. She told me about it, and it resonated with me as a perfect example of the mindset trend I promote.

It turns out that a gentleman decides to propose to his lady in a modest KFC. After the proposal, the couple shares their moment on social media. Sadly, a reporter decided to use a post from the couple to ridicule, indicating that one must be very “broke” to propose marriage in KFC.

Suddenly McDonald’s, a direct competitor of KFC, comes out and instead of seizing the opportunity to make a competitive jab, comments on the post praising the couple and rebuking the reporter’s comment. Furthermore, to back up their words, they gifted the couple a honeymoon in Hawaii. After McDonald’s announcement, the story went viral, causing more than 40 renowned brands, including Audi, to join in with donations of all kinds to the couple in order to emphasize that kindness and empathy are more valuable than any competition.

Reflecting on this story, I cannot help but recall my words in my article “Building Dreams.” In that article, I shared the idea that we are not what we have or do. These things only represent the moment we are in our lives and easily change. The ability to be happy, to fight, to build dreams, and to progress, among many other things we carry within us, do define who we are and change with great difficulty.

To the above, add that there is no stronger driving force in this world than a solid commitment to love. So, for the reporter and for all of us, let us remember that it is not the place, nor the gifts, nor the comparisons that truly count. It is the actions driven by love and determination that define our character. And what truly marks a couple is the decision to face challenges and build dreams together.
